Neither Taurus nor NATO: Scholz voiced a tough position on Ukraine.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed the opinion that there is currently no need to make a new decision regarding the invitation of Ukraine to NATO.
He stated this during his participation in the "maybrit illner" program on the ZDF television channel on Thursday.
"We made decisions in Washington and Vilnius and outlined the perspective. But I believe that apart from this decision, there is currently no new need for decision-making," Scholz noted.
The Chancellor emphasized that "a country that is in a state of war cannot become a member of NATO." "This is obvious to everyone and does not contradict with this. An invitation to NATO is usually associated with the possibility of membership," he remarked.
Scholz believes that it is currently important to discuss security guarantees after the war. He also emphasized the need for a sensible approach that would support Ukraine but not lead to a war between Russia and NATO.
When it comes to the supply of German Taurus missiles to Ukraine, the Chancellor remains adamant: "My opinion is clear. I believe it is wrong." He is convinced that weapons that could lead to an escalation of the conflict should not be supplied.
Recall that in Zelensky's administration, they reacted to rumors that seven countries oppose the invitation of Ukraine to NATO.
