Germany and its allies prepare a new military aid package for Ukraine worth 1.4 billion euros.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that a new military aid package for Ukraine worth 1.4 billion euros is being prepared. He stated this before a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky in Berlin. The aid package is being jointly prepared with Belgium, Denmark, and Norway and is planned to be delivered by the end of 2024. It will include various military systems, including IRIS-T and Skynex air defense systems, "Gepard" anti-aircraft guns, howitzers, self-propelled artillery, armored vehicles, combat drones, radar stations, and ammunition.
Scholz emphasized that Germany is the second-largest supplier of military aid to Ukraine and is actively contributing to strengthening Ukraine's air defense. He also noted that the German budget for next year includes 4 billion euros for direct bilateral aid to Ukraine. Furthermore, Scholz reminded about the preparation of a multi-year credit for Ukraine by the G7 countries and the European Union worth 50 billion dollars, which is planned to be repaid from frozen Russian assets' income.
It is important to note that already in early September Germany ordered 17 IRIS-T air defense systems for Ukraine, and in early October, the German Ministry of Defense announced the transfer of new medium- and short-range IRIS-T air defense systems to Ukraine.
During a press conference with Zelensky, Scholz also agreed to the idea of Russia's participation in the next "Peace Summit".
