EES has started working at the border with the EU: what has changed for Ukrainians.

According to ТСН: Poland and Hungary have already implemented a new digital entry and exit control system — Entry/Exit System (EES) at all their checkpoints. Romania and Slovakia are working on the implementation of this system, although it is already operational on certain routes.

Customs spokesman Andriy Demchenko noted:

“Since October 12, the European Union has begun to implement a new entry-exit system. Speaking about the European countries bordering our state, Poland and Hungary have already connected to this system at all their checkpoints. Romania and Slovakia are still continuing this work”

According to him, filling the Entry/Exit System will take about six months. Therefore, at present, there is not complete information everywhere regarding biometric data such as fingerprints, facial images, passport document data, as well as information about entry and exit.

Demchenko also reported:

“Initially, this system may be filled at 10%, then at 20%. Gradually, over six months, it should reach 100% filling with all necessary data. Fortunately, even in those directions where the EES system has already been implemented at checkpoints, we do not record any failures or decrease in traffic intensity”

The new rules for crossing the border with the EU came into effect on October 12. The new entry/exit system (EES) replaces stamps in passports with digital biometric registration and applies to short-term trips — up to 90 days within any 180 days.

These changes require travelers to adapt to the new rules, but they simplify the border crossing procedure. The new EES system will help avoid delays and ensure a more accurate accounting of individuals crossing the borders of EU countries. Ultimately, this is expected to enhance security and efficiency at checkpoints.
