Support for Mothers of Large Families: Pension Bonus and Early Retirement Eligibility
According to TSN.ua: Ukraine has a social support program for mothers of large families, which includes a pension bonus and the option for early retirement. Under new provisions taking effect in 2026, women who have given birth to and raised five or more children until they reached the age of six will qualify for a pension supplement. This initiative is part of broader efforts to recognize the significant societal contribution of raising children.
The bonus payment for these mothers will range from 35% to 40% of the subsistence minimum for individuals who have lost their ability to work. As of January 1, 2026, the bonus amount will vary from 908.25 to 1,038 Ukrainian hryvnias. These measures are designed to improve the financial well-being of women who have fulfilled a vital social role in child-rearing.
Requirements for Early Retirement
Furthermore, mothers of large families will be eligible to retire upon reaching 50 years of age, provided they have accrued no less than 15 years of insurance contributions. It is important to note that an application for early retirement can be submitted no earlier than one month before turning 50, but no later than three months after the birthday. This allows women to plan their pension arrangements according to their personal circumstances.
These new provisions create additional opportunities for mothers of large families, promoting their social security and support during an important life stage. The legislative changes could significantly impact social policy in Ukraine, as supporting these mothers is crucial for maintaining the country's demographic situation. Given that women often shoulder the primary burden of raising children, such support programs may encourage more families to have children, which would, in turn, positively affect the economy and social structure.
