Audi Detention with Amphetamine: How Drug Couriers Crossed the Border Dozens of Times.
According to ТСН: Ukrainian border guards detained an Audi Q3 vehicle in which over 5 kg of amphetamine worth millions of hryvnias was found. The car had crossed control from the Slovak side several times before being stopped at the "Uzhgorod" checkpoint.
Driver Halyna Toroni and passenger Yuriy Kozar regularly used this route through the Slovak border. At least 13 border crossings by this vehicle have been recorded in a short period, four of which were with Kozar. During the last trip, a service dog discovered nearly 1 kg of amphetamine on the passenger's body, another over 1 kg was found in the luggage, and about 2 kg were discovered during searches in Transcarpathia.
Inspection and Consequences
Slovak border guards determined that frequent border crossings and a 'clean' historical profile allowed them to avoid in-depth checks. Following the car's detention, an internal investigation has been launched, analyzing pass journals, surveillance camera footage, as well as the actions of inspectors and risk profiles that failed to trigger.
As a result, large queues have formed on the Slovak side, and vehicle checks are taking three times longer. Law enforcement recommends that Ukrainian drivers choose other checkpoints rather than 'Uzhgorod-Vyshne Nemetske.'
This case underscores the importance of thorough border control, especially amidst the activation of smuggling schemes. The seizure of such a volume of drugs indicates a serious threat faced by law enforcement in both countries. It is advised to stay updated on the news, as the situation may change.
