Ukraine Implements Hourly Power Cuts on January 19: Regional Schedules Following Russian Attacks.
Ukraine's Power Supply Situation
According to TSN.ua: Hourly power outage schedules will be in effect across Ukraine on January 19, 2023. This measure is a direct result of the damage inflicted on the country's energy infrastructure by massive Russian missile and drone strikes, which have severely undermined the stability of the national grid. These attacks are part of a wider Russian campaign targeting civilian infrastructure during the winter months.
The situation is particularly acute in some regions. Parts of the Odesa region are under emergency blackout protocols, while the Kyiv region is also experiencing emergency outages, with no pre-planned schedules being used. This highlights the severity of the power supply crisis in areas that have borne the brunt of the recent assaults.
Power Outage Schedules
The Zaporizhzhia region will also be affected by scheduled outages on January 19. Power cuts here will be implemented on a rotational basis, with up to 30 minutes allowed for switching consumer groups. The specific outage schedules for Zaporizhzhia are as follows:
- 1.1 / 1.2: 03:00–08:00, 12:00–17:00, 21:00–24:00
- 2.1 / 2.2: 00:00–03:30, 07:30–12:30, 16:30–21:30
- 3.1 / 3.2: 03:00–08:00, 12:00–17:00, 21:00–24:00
- 4.1 / 4.2: 00:00–03:30, 07:30–12:30, 16:30–21:30
- 5.1 / 5.2: 03:00–08:00, 12:00–17:00, 21:00–24:00
- 6.1 / 6.2: 00:00–03:30, 07:30–12:30, 16:30–21:30
Furthermore, the Cherkasy region will have power limitation schedules (PLS) in place from 00:00 to 24:00 on January 19. This decision is similarly driven by the need to maintain grid stability amid the ongoing crisis. All these measures underscore the critical state of Ukraine's power supply, which remains under constant threat due to military actions.
The implementation of hourly power cuts across Ukraine reflects the immense strain on the nation's energy system during wartime. These measures are designed to conserve resources and ensure electricity is available for critically important facilities, such as hospitals and defense infrastructure.
It is vital for the public to prepare for these disruptions and adhere to the published schedules, which can help mitigate the impact of electricity shortages on daily life. Maintaining energy stability remains a top priority for authorities as they navigate this prolonged crisis.
