According to TSN.ua: Honorary Patriarch of Kyiv and All Rus-Ukraine, Filaret, passed away in Kyiv on March 20, 2023, at the age of 97. His death resulted from complications related to chronic illnesses. He had been hospitalized on March 9, 2023, after his health suddenly deteriorated. Filaret was a towering figure in Ukrainian Orthodoxy and played a pivotal role in shaping the nation's religious and national identity.

In response to his passing, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a statement on March 21, 2023, posted on the State Department's website. He remarked:

Funeral Arrangements for Patriarch Filaret
