Electrical Fault Sparks House Fire in Kyiv Region, Leaving 7-Year-Old Boy Homeless.
Boy, 7, Loses Home in Kyiv Region Blaze Caused by Electrical Fault
According to TSN.ua: A fire in the village of Lytvynivka, Vyshhorod district, Kyiv region, has destroyed a family home, leaving seven-year-old Dmytryk, his grandfather, and his uncle without shelter. The blaze occurred on the evening of January 26 between 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM, just as power was being restored following a scheduled outage. Preliminary reports indicate the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit at the moment the electricity came back on. Such incidents highlight the heightened risks associated with power restoration, especially in older housing infrastructure.
Dmytryk has now lost his home after the fire consumed everything. His mother is not in his life, his father died in 2019, and his grandmother passed away at the end of 2024. His uncle, Oleksandr Bondar, who has legal guardianship of the boy, stated that
'it was most likely a short circuit the moment the power came back on after the planned outage.'
Aftermath of the Fire
The fire caused critical damage, completely gutting the attic floor of the house. Uncle Oleksandr noted that
'everything burned in 15 minutes: belongings, toys, gadgets.'The family is currently staying with neighbors while they search for a new place to live. The tragedy underscores the vital importance of electrical safety, particularly when power is restored after an interruption. Short circuits can have devastating consequences, and it is crucial for local authorities and emergency services to be aware of such risks. This incident may also prompt discussions on implementing better protective measures for homes against similar future events.
