The President awarded the title of 'Hero of Ukraine' to the former mayor of Uman, who died at the front.
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine to the former mayor of Uman, junior sergeant Oleksandr Tsebriy. Tsebriy received this award for his courage and heroism displayed in the defense of Ukraine.
The President noted that Tsebriy will be posthumously awarded the Order of 'Golden Star'. Oleksandr Tsebriy was the mayor of Uman from 2015 to 2020 and went to defend Ukraine during the war. He commanded a machine gun platoon of the 58th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade. In July 2024, Tsebriy was killed in the Donbas.
Journalist Yuriy Butusov spent the last day of Oleksandr Tsebriy’s life with him. According to him, few risked their lives in the war as Tsebriy did. He carried out the most dangerous tasks and was an example for other fighters. His contribution to the battalion and military operations was immense.
Tsebriy was awarded the Order of 'For Courage' during his lifetime. He captured a Russian assault soldier and repeatedly rescued wounded comrades during shelling. He held the positions and did everything possible for victory.
Many people came to say goodbye and pay tribute to the Hero - Oleksandr Tsebriy. The ceremony was attended by mayors of some cities in Ukraine and representatives of the Association of Cities of Ukraine.
