During their investigation, officers discovered footprints in the snow and a ladder, evidence pointing to an attempted illegal border crossing. A search team quickly located the man on the bank of the Prut River.

After being found, the individual received first aid and was subsequently transported to a hospital for further care. Preliminary reports indicate his life is not in danger. An administrative report has also been filed against him for violating state border crossing regulations.
