Russia attacked the cemetery in Cherkasy on Christmas Eve: the Avenue of Heroes was damaged.
According to ТСН: Today, on Christmas Eve, Russian troops struck the city cemetery in Cherkasy. As a result of the attack, gravestones in the burial sections of local residents were damaged, as well as the Avenue of Heroes.
Reaction of the Mayor
The Mayor of Cherkasy, Anatoliy Bondarenko, noted that many gravestones were damaged in the cemetery. The destruction of the Avenue of Heroes, where Ukrainian defenders who gave their lives for freedom rest, particularly outraged him.
“Russia has once again struck at our memory. The city cemetery has been damaged, gravestones of ordinary Cherkasy residents have been mutilated, and the Avenue of our Heroes stands defiled. This has nothing to do with faith or humanity. Such acts are committed by those who have no God in their hearts,”
Brief Information about Other Events
Let us remind you that on December 24, on Christmas Eve, Russian occupiers also attacked Cherkasy region. The Christmas Eve there began with an enemy strike. Air defense forces neutralized a Russian missile in the Cherkasy district.
This attack on the cemetery in Cherkasy has become yet another confirmation of the brutality of Russian actions, unfortunately associated with the war. Damaging gravestones not only strikes at the memory of the fallen but also highlights the seriousness of the situation at the front. Cherkasy, as a city, feels the consequences of the war on its cultural and humanitarian levels, and this is becoming increasingly evident to the residents and to all of Ukraine.
