Zelenskyy Says Russia Is 100% Behind Iran’s Attacks on US Military Bases.
Russia’s Military Support to Iran
According to TSN.ua: Russia is supplying Iran with military assistance, including Su-35 fighter jets and intelligence data. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy raised this issue, stating that Moscow is fully involved in strikes targeting American military bases in Iran. As tensions escalate, Ukraine is emerging as a key partner for Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates in countering Iranian drone threats.
Iranian Strikes and Defense Contracts
According to available information, on March 26, 2023, Iran launched 6 ballistic missiles and 29 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). These attacks wounded 15 U.S. military personnel. Additionally, Iran has signed a contract for 48 Su-35 fighter jets, with the first deliveries expected by the end of 2024. Since 2024, Iran has also received at least one squadron of Yak-130 combat trainer aircraft.
A key element of this military cooperation involves the supply of Mi-28 attack helicopters. Iran is expected to receive up to six of these helicopters by January 2026. Furthermore, on February 22, 2026, an agreement was signed for the delivery of Verba man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS) worth 500 million euros.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy described Russia’s involvement in these operations as one hundred percent, underscoring the seriousness and scale of cooperation between the two nations.
In response to these emerging challenges, Ukraine is becoming a significant player in the region, particularly for Gulf monarchies that are choosing to partner with Kyiv in combating Iranian drones.
This growing military collaboration between Russia and Iran, along with Ukraine’s active role, highlights the increasingly complex geopolitical situation in the Middle East and the Gulf region.
These developments point to a deepening strategic partnership between Moscow and Tehran, which could reshape regional security dynamics. The arms deliveries to Iran reflect its efforts to bolster its defenses amid international isolation. Ukraine, meanwhile, is working to strengthen its international standing by positioning itself as a partner for countries threatened by Iranian military technology. This may lead to shifts in alliances and security approaches in the region, warranting close attention from the international community.
