Vinnytsia Region Hit in Coordinated Russian Assault Involving Drones, Missiles, and Power Outages.
Strike on the Vinnytsia Region
According to TSN.ua: On March 7, 2023, Russian forces launched a coordinated assault on Ukraine's Vinnytsia Oblast, causing significant damage to infrastructure but no reported casualties. The attack involved a massed aerial assault, with 27 drones and 5 cruise missiles detected in the region's airspace.
The strike damaged approximately 40 residential buildings and caused destruction to energy and railway infrastructure. Following the bombardment, around 900 households in the Vinnytsia region were left without power. This disruption forced significant changes to train schedules:
- Several rail services were canceled;
- Others had their routes altered in the Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, and Khmelnytskyi oblasts.
Railway workers conducted repairs in the Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, and Rivne regions to restore normal transport operations.
“The attack resulted in damage to energy and railway infrastructure, as well as the destruction of civilian residential buildings.”
Natalia Zabolotna
While the situation in the region is under control, the consequences of the attack require urgent resolution. This assault is part of Russia's ongoing campaign targeting Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, a tactic that has characterized the full-scale invasion. The attack on Vinnytsia, a major logistical hub in western Ukraine, highlights the war's continued impact on areas far from the front lines.
Authorities and emergency services are working to restore the damaged infrastructure and provide necessary aid to residents affected by the attack.
