Nationwide Attack on February 22

According to TSN.ua: In the early hours of February 22, Russia launched a large-scale, multi-vector assault across Ukraine. The attack, which began around 2 a.m., involved a combination of cruise and ballistic missiles, Shahed-type drones, and was carried out by MiG-31K fighter jets alongside Tu-95MS and Tu-160 strategic bombers. Air raid sirens sounded nationwide as the assault unfolded.

This latest barrage is part of Russia's ongoing campaign to target Ukrainian civilian infrastructure and energy networks. The strikes resulted in casualties for two Kyiv residents—a woman and a child. Damage was also recorded in five districts of the Kyiv region:

  • In the Boryspil district, a private house was damaged and a woman was injured.
  • The Brovary district sustained damage, including to 10 units in a garage cooperative.
  • In the Fastiv district, five private houses were seriously damaged, and 8 people were rescued.
  • The Bucha district saw two private houses and a car damaged.
  • Energy infrastructure in the Mykolaiv region was hit, leaving 16,000 subscribers without power.
  • The city of Kremenchuk was struck eight times by ballistic missiles.

"A fire on the roof of a building. We are clarifying information about casualties," reported Timur Tkachenko.

"Tonight, Russia once again struck energy infrastructure facilities with drones. The impacts caused large-scale fires. All fire outbreaks have now been extinguished by rescuers," noted Oleh Kiper.

Aftermath and Security Imperatives

The attack continues to cause deep concern among the population and necessitates urgent measures to ensure safety and repair damaged facilities.

This assault is part of Russia's prolonged aggression against Ukraine, which began in 2014. Given the scale of destruction and the number of victims, the situation demands immediate action from Ukrainian authorities and international partners to enhance security levels and restore infrastructure. Furthermore, the attack underscores the critical importance of Ukraine's air defense systems and the urgent need to strengthen them in the face of persistent threats from the aggressor state.
