Strike on the energy infrastructure of Sumy

According to ТСН: Today, Russian forces struck the energy infrastructure of Sumy.

This was reported by the regional administration.

“Hostile strikes caused interruptions in electricity and water supply in the Sumy district. The aggressor continues to try to deprive people of basic living conditions, cynically attacking civilian infrastructure”
.

Relevant services are involved in eliminating the consequences, and energy workers are working to restore stable electricity supply.

Situation with electricity in Ukraine

Former Minister Ivan Plachkov warned of the risk of a total blackout in Ukraine, which could lead to 20 hours without electricity.

Head of the Union of Consumers of Public Utilities of Ukraine Oleg Popenko noted that the situation with electricity in Ukraine may improve. Provided there are no shelling and stable weather, the duration of electricity outages may decrease in just two weeks. Then Ukraine will have the opportunity to switch from emergency to stabilization schedules of outages (4-6 hours daily). This is a positive scenario.

However, if Russia continues massive attacks on energy, the situation may worsen. Cold weather may also impact the consequences. In such a case, periods without electricity may increase to at least 12 hours, and in some regions – up to 20 hours a day.

These events indicate the sensitivity of Ukraine's energy system to external influences. Solidarity and readiness of the Ukrainian society for unexpected situations are important. Energy workers and emergency services are working to address the consequences and ensure comfort for the population, however, stability will remain at risk as long as the war continues.
