Odesa Hit by Russian Shahed Drone Attack, Infrastructure Damaged.
Odesa Targeted in Nighttime Strike
According to TSN.ua: Russian forces launched an overnight assault on Odesa using Iranian-made Shahed drones, damaging a key infrastructure site. Serhiy Bratchuk, head of the Odesa regional military administration, confirmed the details of the attack. The port city of Odesa has been a frequent target for Russian strikes since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022.
Recent Escalation in the Region
This latest strike follows a major attack on the Odesa region the previous day, where approximately fifty Shahed drones were deployed. That assault resulted in three fatalities and more than thirty injuries, including:
- six children
- a woman in her 39th week of pregnancy
The bombardment also damaged around fifty residential buildings, with one structure suffering a collapse of three floors. Rescue and search operations at that site continued for over twelve hours.
Bratchuk reported that all emergency services and public transport in the city are currently operating normally. Municipal workers are actively clearing the debris and repairing damage from the Russian shelling.
These attacks on the Odesa region underscore the ongoing escalation of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, particularly the use of drones to target civilian infrastructure. — Serhiy Bratchuk
Such strikes increasingly impact not only military targets but also the civilian population, a trend that has drawn significant concern from the international community. Local authorities continue to prioritize rescue operations and providing aid to those affected by the attacks.
