A Drunk Policeman Hit a Woman on a Bicycle and Fled: He Faces 10 Years.
According to ТСН: In the Rivne region, a policeman got into a scandal due to a deadly traffic accident. He hit a woman riding an electric bicycle and fled the scene. The man was charged with suspicion, as investigators reported that he was in a state of alcohol intoxication during the incident.
According to the State Bureau of Investigations, the incident occurred in the evening in the village of Orv'yanytsia when the policeman crashed his car into the bicycle that was moving ahead. Interestingly, despite the well-lit road, the driver exceeded the speed limit. As a result of the collision, a 40-year-old woman died on the spot. However, when help was needed, the perpetrator simply fled.
The fugitive was detained the next day. At that time, he was in a state of detoxification from alcohol. Despite refusing to undergo a breathalyzer test, the investigation ordered a blood analysis to determine the level of intoxication.
According to the data from the SBI, the policeman could face up to 10 years in prison for violating traffic rules while intoxicated and leaving the victim in danger. The Rivne Regional Prosecutor's Office is preparing a request for detention measures and his suspension from office. Investigative actions are ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the case.
It is worth noting that recently there was another tragic traffic accident in Kyiv region, when a group of young people lost their lives due to a dangerous 'attraction', which led to the death of a 25-year-old boy.
It was also previously reported that in Kyiv region a minibus entered the opposite lane, which caused a collision with Jeep and Volkswagen cars. As a result of this incident, one person died, and 13 were injured.
This tragedy in Rivne region once again highlights the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and ignoring basic road safety rules. The situation requires close attention from the authorities regarding the enforcement of traffic regulations and the prevention of similar incidents in the future.
