What fines threaten for illegally cut Christmas trees in 2025

If you are caught cutting down a coniferous tree in forests or urban plantings without permission, the following sanctions may apply:

Administrative responsibility:

under article 65 of the Code of Administrative Offenses:

• citizens - from 510 to 1,020 UAH;

• officials - from 2,550 to 5,100 UAH.

under article 153 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (illegal logging outside settlements):

• citizens - from 170 to 510 UAH;

• officials and entrepreneurs - from 510 to 850 UAH.

under article 88-1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (violation of rules for selling or purchasing plants):

• from 510 to 1,700 UAH;

• in reserves - from 1,700 to 3,655 UAH.

Possible criminal liability

If significant damage is caused by illegal logging, article 246 of the Criminal Code may apply. It provides for:

• restriction of freedom for up to 3 years, or

• imprisonment from 3 to 7 years, depending on the severity of the damage and the circumstances.
