When to collect water on Epiphany 2026

According to ТСН: The blessing of water in churches takes place in two stages:

  • On January 5, on the Eve of Epiphany — after the morning or evening service;

  • On January 6, on the very day of the holiday — after the festive liturgy.

The Church believes that water blessed on either of these days has the same spiritual power. Therefore, everyone can choose a convenient time to visit the church. In some towns and villages, blessings of open waters are also conducted, where one can collect holy water.

There is a common perception that on the night of Epiphany any water becomes blessed. Officially, the Church does not confirm this: only water blessed during the service is considered Jordanian. Therefore, it is best to collect holy water directly in the church.

How to store Epiphany water

Traditionally, the water blessed on Epiphany can be stored for a year or even longer. It does not lose its power if treated with respect.

The main storage rules:

  1. Keep in a clean, preferably glass container;

  2. Store in a cool place, away from sunlight;

  3. Do not use it for household purposes, treat the water with respect.

Usually, Epiphany water is consumed on an empty stomach in small amounts or used for blessing the home throughout the year.

For many, Epiphany is not just a tradition, but also a reminder of inner focus, faith, and spiritual renewal. It is advised to approach collecting and preserving holy water with this attitude.

Epiphany is a special holiday for Ukrainians, celebrated with honor and faith. Blessed water becomes a symbol of spiritual purification and renewal. Therefore, during this holiday, it is important to adhere to traditions and treat holy water with the appropriate respect so that it brings peace and blessings to the home.
