According to ТСН: Astronomical discovery near the Milky Way

Scientists have discovered a "rogue planet" the size of Saturn in the center of the Milky Way. This information was published in a scientific article in Science.

The distance to this planet is 9.9 thousand light-years, located in the constellation Sagittarius. This discovery confirmed that large planets can leave their stellar systems, where they were created, in very rare cases.

Research and work of astronomers

The discovery was made by astronomers led by Andrzej Udalski, director of the Warsaw University Observatory (Poland), as part of the OGLE project. They found several dim and cold celestial bodies, often referred to as "rogue planets".

Possible new worlds at the outskirts of the Solar System

In addition, scientists from Princeton University speculate that there may be another planet at the outskirts of the Solar System — Planet Y, which is about the size of Earth and likely has a rocky surface.

These discoveries not only expand our understanding of the structure of the Universe but also confirm the existence of other celestial bodies that may have conditions suitable for life. They open new horizons for further research and study of exoplanets, which could revolutionize our understanding of what space is and what secrets it holds.
