Systematic Child Abuse Exposed in Dnipro

According to TSN.ua: Authorities in Dnipro have uncovered a pattern of systematic abuse at a family-type orphanage, where six children aged 3 to 10 were subjected to physical and psychological violence. According to reports, the foster parents allegedly used beatings, humiliation, and isolation, resulting in serious injuries and trauma for the children. This case highlights ongoing challenges in safeguarding vulnerable children within institutional care systems.

The appalling conditions the children endured also included:

• Being deprived of food;
• Being forced to walk barefoot on stones;
• Sleeping on a bare wooden bench.

The crimes came to light after the eldest child spoke out, prompting an immediate investigation.

Official Response and Broader Context

The children are now in a safe environment, as the orphanage has been shut down. Two foster parents have been notified of suspicion of torture. Since the beginning of the year, 122 individuals have been notified of suspicion for similar crimes, including 74 social service workers. In total, over 250 children have been removed from dangerous environments, indicating the scale of the problem.

Ruslan Kravchenko, the Prosecutor General, emphasized the importance of exposing such cases and the necessity of ensuring child safety in all caregiving institutions.
