Macaque Escapes in Hostomel: Why Wild Animals Should Not Be Kept at Home.
According to ТСН: In Hostomel, near Kyiv, a monkey escaped from its owners and was running through the streets. This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv Zoo.
«Year after year, we do not tire of reminding about the inadmissibility of keeping wild animals in inappropriate home conditions for the sake of pleasure! This week, thanks to the participation of volunteers, we managed to rescue another household “wonder” — a male macaque. The monkey was kept for entertainment, but then it grew up and began to exhibit natural behavior, which usually sharply diverges from the cute videos on the Internet,» the statement says.
The animal has undergone a complete examination at the veterinary hospital of the Kyiv Zoo and is under strict 30-day quarantine.
«Ahead — treatment and long rehabilitation and adaptation. After all, deep stress is perhaps the least problem of the Hostomel macaque after inappropriate conditions of keeping, care, and nutrition. In conclusion, let us emphasize once again: do not keep wild animals at home,» emphasized KyivZoo.
Nutria in Odesa Region
In the Odesa region, scientists noticed an animal from South America — this is a nutria. This rodent is an invasive species for Ukrainian ecosystems. Nutrias are bred in farms, but cases of escape or deliberate release of the animals lead to their appearance in the wild. The body length of a nutria ranges from 50 to 85 cm, and its weight is 6-8 kg.
Cases of keeping wild animals in home conditions are becoming a serious problem for the ecosystem, as animals like macaques experience significant stress due to unsocial living conditions. It is important to understand that such behavior not only threatens the lives of the animals themselves but can also create ecological problems when wildlife comes into contact with captive individuals.
