Tragedy in Khmelnytskyi Region

According to TSN.ua: A 55-year-old resident of the Krasyliv community in Khmelnytskyi region has been formally charged in connection with the death of a 9-year-old boy. The child died after consuming alcohol while unsupervised. The incident occurred in a village within the community, where, according to preliminary information, the boy was drinking at a neighbor's home.

After drinking, the boy walked approximately 200 meters toward his own home before losing consciousness. His body was later discovered in a vegetable garden near the household. The boy's mother reported him missing to police around 11:30 PM. This case highlights ongoing concerns about child welfare and the accessibility of alcohol to minors in the region.

Legal Consequences

Investigators have charged the man under Part 3 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which covers 'abandonment in a dangerous situation resulting in death.' A court has ordered him to be held in custody as a preventive measure. If convicted, the suspect faces a prison sentence ranging from 3 to 8 years.

This tragedy underscores the critical importance of adult supervision and responsibility for child safety. Incidents where children consume alcohol without oversight can lead to severe, often fatal, consequences, demanding active intervention from both families and the wider community. Thorough investigation of such cases is vital to raise public awareness about the dangers of underage drinking and the need to protect children from similar preventable situations.
