Long-range strikes on Russia - schizophrenia
The statement of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz regarding the refusal to lift restrictions for Ukraine on long-range strikes on the Russian Federation reflects "some schizophrenia" in the German approach.

This was stated on the air of the FREEДОМ TV channel by analyst of the Stockholm Center for Eastern European Studies Andreas Umland.

"This reflects some schizophrenia, I would say, in the German approach. Because on the one hand, both from the government side and from the entire society, there is support for Ukraine. And this early sympathy for Russia, it has disappeared, if you exclude the extreme parties on the left and right. And now the vision of Russia is more realistic, and therefore there is significant support in principle for Ukraine, and sympathy, and this is also expressed in assistance. On the other hand, there is also a very strong fear of spreading this war, expanding this war, turning it into World War III, into a nuclear war, and Russian propaganda is playing with it," the analyst said.

According to him, the result of this is the opinion of German society that providing Ukraine with the necessary TAURUS cruise missiles would draw Germany into the war and provoke a corresponding reaction from Russia.

"And this fear stands between this decision. Although other weapons, including heavy ones, are supplied by Germany in substantial amounts. But regarding these particular missiles, for some reason, the majority, not just the Social Democratic Party represented by Olaf Scholz as Chancellor, but the majority of society has formed the opinion that under no circumstances should these missiles be supplied, because this would then be a fundamental threat to Germany," Umland noted.
