Human Trafficking Charges in Poland

According to TSN.ua: The owner of a Polish passenger transport firm, Krzysztof P., along with his wife Barbara, has been accused of human trafficking. Among those exploited were citizens of Ukraine. Authorities have detained several accomplices, including three Georgian nationals and two border guards.

The case unfolded on March 10 at a bus depot in Bytom, where Krzysztof P. runs a private company operating over 50 bus routes for the municipal transit authority ZTM. Investigators have leveled charges related to involvement in an organized criminal group, human trafficking, and facilitating the illegal stay of foreigners in Poland.

The Issue of Labor Exploitation

Victims subjected to forced labor included individuals from:

  • Azerbaijan
  • Georgia
  • India
  • Ukraine

Evidence shows one driver worked up to 450 hours per month, far exceeding the typical 300–350 hour norm. In total, law enforcement has identified 15 affected drivers. This case has highlighted the widespread problem of labor exploitation among foreigners in Poland and sparked public outrage.

This case underscores a broader issue of labor exploitation of foreigners in Poland, which has become increasingly pressing in recent years due to growing demand for workers across various sectors of the economy.

The investigation and arrests of those linked to these criminal activities may mark a significant step in combating such offenses and safeguarding workers' rights. Observers believe this situation could lead to stricter legislation and enhanced oversight of labor migration in the country.
