Holiday surge: long queues form at three border crossings as Ukrainians rush home.
Border traffic heats up
According to TSN.ua: Traffic at the Poland-Ukraine border has intensified sharply as Ukrainian citizens head home en masse ahead of the holidays, causing delays at checkpoints. According to Andriy Demchenko, over 107,000 people crossed the border yesterday alone, with the majority entering Ukraine.
Key crossings and system upgrade
The busiest points—'Shehyni', 'Krakivets', and 'Rava-Ruska'—are bearing the brunt of the surge, with persistent lines reflecting the rising passenger flow. In response, Ukraine's Ministry of Development has updated the 'eCherha' queue management system for short-distance buses, aiming to streamline border processing and cut wait times for travelers.
The sharp increase in cross-border traffic between Ukraine and Poland highlights a strong pre-holiday return of Ukrainians to their home country, a trend that supports social and economic stability. The revamped 'eCherha' system promises to ease congestion at these high-pressure border points, offering smoother passage during peak travel periods.
