Ukrzaliznytsia to Introduce Airline-Style Insurance for Passengers: What Travelers Should Expect.
Passenger Insurance at Ukrzaliznytsia
According to TSN.ua: Ukrzaliznytsia is moving to adopt a passenger insurance model similar to that used in aviation, covering risks like train delays and bodily injury. The announcement came from board chairman Oleksandr Pertsovskyi during a press conference held in the bomb shelter of Kyiv's main railway station. He stated:
'Insurance is a separate product. We are definitely open to insuring people, just like in aviation.' Oleksandr Pertsovskyi
Alongside this initiative, the government has committed to keeping ticket prices unchanged until the end of the war. Pertsovskyi emphasized:
'The state has adopted a clear strategy: no price increases until the war is over.' Oleksandr Pertsovskyi
Currently, Ukrzaliznytsia’s premium tickets include sleeper cars (SV, or luxury) and first-class seats on Intercity+ trains. This development highlights the railway’s efforts to maintain comfortable and safe travel conditions during a challenging period.
Introducing passenger insurance could significantly boost travelers’ perception of service quality, offering an extra layer of protection amid wartime uncertainty. At the same time, freezing ticket prices may help attract more riders, which is especially critical given the economic hardships facing Ukraine.
