Sharp Spike in Diesel and LPG Prices in Ukraine: What Drivers Now Face at the Pump.
Fuel Price Surge Across Ukraine
According to TSN.ua: On April 2, 2023, Ukrainian fuel markets recorded a notable increase in the cost of diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The average price for diesel climbed by 1.05 hryvnias per liter, reaching 86.87 hryvnias per liter. Meanwhile, LPG prices rose by 69 kopecks, bringing the average to 47.55 hryvnias per liter. These hikes come amid ongoing economic pressures and supply chain challenges in the country.

Gasoline prices also show significant variation. Premium A-95 fuel costs 75.56 hryvnias per liter, while standard A-95 sits at 71.81 hryvnias per liter. The lowest price for A-95 gasoline was recorded at the RLS chain, at 67.90 hryvnias per liter. On the other end, diesel reached a maximum of 89.90 hryvnias per liter at OKKO stations, with some filling stations exceeding the 90-hryvnia mark. For auto gas, the Mango network offers the cheapest rate at 45.99 hryvnias per liter, while Motto stations charge up to 49.98 hryvnias per liter.
Andriy Zakrevsky noted that 'practically 100% of the country's diesel needs for April have already been contracted.'
This development suggests the fuel market is actively responding to consumer demand, yet the price surge is raising alarm among drivers and business owners who rely on fuel for their operations. Such fluctuations could ripple through the economy, potentially driving up costs for other goods and services across Ukraine.
The rise in fuel prices—especially for diesel and LPG—points to a strained market environment, fueled by high demand and limited supply. These conditions are likely to increase transportation expenses, which in turn may push up prices for a wide range of products. Against the backdrop of war and global crises, Ukraine's fuel market remains highly sensitive to change, reflecting not only economic but also social challenges for the population. Supply constraints and elevated fuel costs could further dampen consumer spending and weigh on the country's overall economic outlook.
