Chernihiv region: man sentenced for relationship with 15-year-old schoolgirl who gave birth

According to ТСН: A man, the father of a 15-year-old schoolgirl's child, was sentenced to 2 years of probation in the Chernihiv region.

This is stated in the verdict of the Bakhmach District Court of the Chernihiv region.

Essence of the violation

Investigators established that in June 2025, the accused engaged in sexual relations with a minor who was only 15 years old at the time. This is a violation of the law regulating the 'age of consent'.

This incident became known when the girl became pregnant. Despite both parties' assurances of the 'voluntary nature' of their relationship, law enforcement opened a criminal case.

Court proceedings and the position of the law

During the hearing, the accused admitted his guilt. The court emphasized that even the man's awareness of the girl's age and their cohabitation do not absolve him of responsibility for crimes against the sexual integrity of a child.

According to the law, sexual relations with a person under 16 years of age are classified as a criminal offense, as the state must protect the physical and psychological development of minors from early adult experiences.

However, the girl expressed support for the man, stating that she gave her voluntary consent.

‘Currently, she lives with the accused and his family and continues her education. She sees the accused as her future husband who is to take care of her and the child. There are no moral or material claims,’ the court material states.

Court verdict

The court found the man guilty and assigned him the following punishment:

  • 2 years and 6 months of restriction of freedom.

  • Based on Art. 75 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the convicted person is exempt from actual serving his sentence with the appointment of 2 years of probation.

This case has caused public outrage as it highlights serious issues in protecting the rights of minors. Despite the circumstances, the court emphasized the necessity of adhering to the law regarding the protection of youth from exploitation. Further steps in this direction may include strengthening legislation and educational programs aimed at raising awareness about the risks associated with early sexual relationships.
