The pharmacist named the most dangerous drinks for a hangover: alcohol ranking.
According to ТСН: A festive party or a meeting with friends often ends with unpleasantness in the form of headaches and fatigue in the morning. The main reason for feeling unwell is the alcohol consumed, but the type of alcohol plays an important role as well. Pharmacist Chris Woodward studied popular drinks and found out which ones hit the body hardest.
Drinks that seem safe at first glance
Choosing beer or white wine might seem like a safe choice due to their lower alcohol content. However, Woodward notes that these drinks often lead to moderate hangovers.
The real problem lies in the psychological aspect: due to the low alcohol content, people tend to consume more than they planned. Additionally, the bubbles in carbonated drinks accelerate the absorption of ethanol into the bloodstream, resulting in quick intoxication.
Red wine and its consequences
Despite being popular, red wine can lead to serious hangovers. The expert characterized this drink as a 'ready cocktail for a hangover'.
'Red wine contains a volatile mixture: tannins, histamines, and sugar.'
For those who cannot go without wine, it is advised to choose white varieties. The best choice remains moderation.
Anti-rating of alcoholic drinks
According to research, whiskey, bourbon, brandy, and dark rum occupy the top positions in the anti-rating of the worst drinks for a hangover due to their high content of congeners - by-products of fermentation.
Woodward calls bourbon a real 'hangover bomb'. Drinks with a high content of congeners are difficult for the body to process, causing prolonged intoxication.
Bargain alcoholic drinks
The pharmacist also warns about the risks of consuming cheap alcoholic drinks. They go through fewer distillation and purification stages, leaving more harmful impurities that slow down the elimination of toxins from the body.
Regular beer consumption
It is important to remember that regular beer consumption, often considered 'light' alcohol, carries serious health risks. According to EatingWell, even small daily portions can lead to sleep disturbances, slower weight loss, digestive problems, and dehydration, and in the long term, increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases and cancer.
Experts emphasize that the potential benefits of beer do not outweigh the harm of alcohol, and there is no exact safe or beneficial dose.
It should be noted that responsible alcohol consumption depends not only on its popularity but also on how we consume it. Moderation and attentiveness to how you feel can save your mornings from unpleasant hangovers and protect your health in the long term.
