A Second Daughter Lost: Six-Year-Old Girl Dies in Hospital After Sister’s Sacrifice.
The Tragic Death of Yevheniia
According to TSN.ua: A six-year-old girl named Yevheniia has died in the hospital from injuries sustained during a shelling attack in the Sumy region on March 28. Her older sister, 20-year-old Dasha Serhiienko, also lost her life in that same assault. Dasha shielded her younger sibling with her own body during the bombardment, which allowed Yevheniia to survive initially—though she was hospitalized in critical condition.
Attack in the Village of Ochkyne
The shelling occurred in the village of Ochkyne, part of the Znob-Novhorodske community. Both parents of the girls were also wounded in the attack. Prominent Ukrainian official Oleh Syniehubov commented on the tragedy, stating:
Unspeakable grief. The parents have lost both of their daughters as a result of this strike. — Oleh Syniehubov
This harrowing event has sparked widespread public outcry, underscoring the direct toll that ongoing hostilities take on ordinary civilians.
Yevheniia’s death adds another tragic chapter to a story that vividly illustrates the brutality of war and its impact on innocent residents. This case highlights the urgent need for international attention to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, where shelling continues to claim the lives of innocent people, especially children. The public response to this tragedy may help drive new initiatives aimed at protecting civilians in conflict zones and advancing efforts toward peace.
