At Munich Security Conference, Zelenskyy Rules Out Ukrainian Surrender.
Ukrainian President's Statement
According to UATV: Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made it clear that Ukraine is not prepared to capitulate and will not sacrifice its sovereignty. He stated the country is ready for peace, but not at the cost of limiting its sovereignty or ceding territory to Russia without a fight.
"We will not sacrifice our sovereignty for the sake of peace, we will not agree to limit our sovereignty, we will not hand over our territories to Russia without a fight,"Zelenskyy declared.
Negotiations and Ukraine's Stance
Amid ongoing diplomatic efforts, a new round of trilateral talks in the Ukraine–US–Russia format took place in Geneva on February 18. Political analyst Volodymyr Fesenko noted that Ukraine must clearly define its 'red lines' in negotiations with Russia. He emphasized that demonstrating a readiness for compromise is ineffective and is perceived as weakness.
"We will not recognize any of the occupied territories as Russian,"Fesenko stressed, highlighting the critical importance of making no concessions regarding occupied lands.
Fesenko further added that there is pressure from some countries urging Ukraine to sign agreements making concessions to Russia in exchange for security guarantees. He pointed out:
"We are told that if we sign concessions to Russia, then we will receive security guarantees,"underscoring the difficult position Ukraine finds itself in. These statements indicate that Ukraine's position regarding future negotiations remains firm: the country is ready for peace, but not at the expense of its sovereignty or territorial integrity.
This situation underscores the vital importance of upholding the principles of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity in international relations. The continuation of the Ukraine–US–Russia format talks shows the international community remains invested in regional stability, yet pressure from certain nations could complicate Ukraine's negotiating position. For Ukraine, clearly defining its 'red lines' will be a key factor in safeguarding its national interests in future talks. The Munich conference is a major annual forum where global security policy, including the war in Ukraine, is a central topic.
