President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky decided to replace the Ukrainian ambassador in Germany, Bild reports, citing sources in diplomatic circles.

According to sources in the publication, Zelensky dismissed Oleksiy Makeev, who had held this position since September 2022. His successor will be the current Ukrainian ambassador to Israel, Yevhen Korniychuk.

It is noted that the official reason for the replacement of Makeev is the regular rotation of diplomats.

However, as noted in diplomatic circles, this decision could have been influenced by the systematic and public criticism of Makeev by his predecessor Andriy Melnyk. The former ambassador of Ukraine to Germany criticized Makeev for his insufficient activity and urged him to put more effort into his work.

It is known that Makeev will remain in Berlin until February. During his tenure as ambassador, Germany supplied Ukraine with 121 battle tanks and 140 infantry fighting vehicles, as well as a lot of other weapons.

Both Makeev and Melnyk refused to comment on this information.

Recall the appointment of Makeev

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree appointing Oleksiy Makeev as the new ambassador of Ukraine to Germany on September 23, 2022.

Makeev's predecessor, Andriy Melnyk, held the post of Ukrainian ambassador to Germany since 2014. At the beginning of July, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree recalling him, and he is set to leave Germany in mid-October. In Kyiv, Melnyk could become one of the new deputy heads of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but no official appointment has been made yet.

Appointments of new ambassadors

On December 20, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky approved over 30 new appointments of Ukrainian ambassadors.
