Ukrainian Parliament's Work Halted as 38 Lawmakers Hospitalized.
Outbreak Among Ukrainian MPs
According to TSN.ua: A sudden illness has led to the hospitalization of 38 members of Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada, the country's parliament. The specific cause of the outbreak remains unknown at this time. The symptoms reported by the affected deputies include:
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- A fever of up to 38 degrees Celsius (100.4°F)
On February 12, the Verkhovna Rada was unable to begin its scheduled work due to the significant absence of sick lawmakers. This incident highlights the vulnerability of legislative bodies to public health disruptions. Parliamentary specialists have launched an investigation and are conducting laboratory tests to determine an exact diagnosis. The possibility of a rotavirus or another acute intestinal infection is under consideration.
Deputy Galina Tretyakova reported that 'more than 38 people's deputies fell ill simultaneously.'
She also noted that the 'treatment is intensive, even involving IV drips.' The situation is being managed by medical specialists who are working to identify the source of the illness.
The incapacitation of such a large number of deputies could significantly impact the parliament's operations and its ability to pass crucial legislation for the nation. With the health of elected officials at risk, it is particularly vital to control the epidemiological situation. Determining the cause of the outbreak will help prevent similar incidents in the future and protect both lawmakers and the public at large.
