Details of the event have been entered into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under Part 1 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The Khreshchatyk station is a central hub in the capital's subway system, making such incidents highly visible.
"Information on this incident has been entered into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under Part 1, Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. An investigation is underway to identify all participants," stated representatives of the Kyiv Metro Police.
This is not the first instance of hooliganism at this location; a similar incident took place earlier on January 3rd.
Penalties for Hooliganism
Under Ukrainian law, penalties for hooliganism can include:
- A fine ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 tax-free minimum incomes;
- Probationary supervision for up to 5 years;
- Restriction of liberty for the same period.
Police are continuing their work to establish all the circumstances of the incident and identify everyone involved in the conflict.
Acts of hooliganism on public transport, particularly in metro stations, raise concerns among passengers and can impact the overall sense of security in the city. The recurrence of such incidents at the same station highlights a potential need for enhanced security measures and monitoring of youth behavior in public spaces. The ongoing police investigation may help prevent similar events in the future.
