Massive blackout in Ukraine: what determines the likelihood of complete disconnection

According to ТСН: The likelihood of a significant blackout in Ukraine depends on several factors, including the intensity of Russian attacks, the effectiveness of the air defense system, the level of physical protection of energy facilities, and the operation of nuclear power plants.

This opinion was expressed by expert of the Institute of Energy Strategies Yuriy Korolchuk during the KYYIV24 broadcast.

“There is currently no full guarantee of stable operation of nuclear power plants due to Russian strikes and fluctuations in the energy system. All this forces Ukraine to load nuclear plants more actively to increase electricity production and reduce the duration of outages,” he noted.

According to the expert, the situation in the country after recent attacks, especially in Odesa and other regions, is not a blackout in the full sense of the word, but rather a partial blackout.

As a result of Russian shelling of energy infrastructure in Ukraine, as of the morning of December 13, homes in six regions remain without electricity. In particular, people in Odesa, Chernihiv, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, and Mykolaiv regions have been left without power.

The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine emphasizes that hourly disconnection schedules and power restrictions for industrial enterprises and businesses are in effect in all regions.

The situation in the energy sector remains tense due to constant threats from Russia. As experts note, it is important to monitor the developments and take necessary measures to ensure stable electricity supply in Ukraine. This issue remains at the center of attention, as it affects the daily needs of citizens and the functioning of the economy.
