EU approves new sanctions against Russia: what the restrictions target.
Statement by Volodymyr Zelensky on new sanctions against Russia
According to inkorr.com: President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the European Union for adopting a 'strong' package of sanctions against Russia. This set of measures is aimed at key sectors of the Russian military economy, particularly at revenues from energy resources, finance, and the military-industrial complex.
«This is an important step that will strengthen pressure on the Russian military machine and have a tangible effect. We also welcome work on using the income from frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine. This is very important for our defense and resilience, and will also contribute to our recovery,» Zelensky noted.
The president also urged international partners to intensify these actions to force Russia into peace and accountability, and expressed gratitude to the EU for its leadership and solidarity.
The European Commission confirmed the sanctions package, but EU member states still need to agree on these measures. In addition, discussions are ongoing regarding the possibility of a rapid phase-out of Russian gas use in the countries of the European Union by 2027.
Zelensky emphasized the importance of the European Commission's decisions and supports the initiative to abandon Russian gas in the EU.
This new sanctions package symbolizes the growing unity and determination of Europe in countering Russia's aggression. In the context of the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia, the actions of international partners, including the EU, are critical for ensuring security and stability in the region. Such measures can significantly impact the aggressor's economy, prompting changes in its foreign policy.
