Study Findings on Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

According to TSN.ua: Dr. Kami Parsa presented MRI results from a patient who had received 12 hyaluronic acid filler injections over six years. The study revealed that the actual volume of filler in the patient's tissues was nearly double the amount injected, pointing to the hydrophilic nature of these substances. Specifically, the filler volume in the tissues measured approximately 28 cubic centimeters.

Dr. Parsa noted that this demonstrates how hyaluronic acid-based fillers attract water and cause tissue expansion. The research also indicates that filler effects can persist for more than a decade. The specialist highlighted a potential overuse of such products:

“We believe that hyaluronic acid fillers have sometimes been overused for many years,” the doctor emphasized.

Cases of Long-Lasting Effects from Hyaluronic Acid Injections

Among patients who received hyaluronic acid injections, some reported noticeable results lasting an extended period. For instance, one patient shared:

“Since 2018, I’ve had at least 10 lip injections. At first, they would dissolve, but now I haven’t had any in three years, and they’re still just as plump.”
Another patient remarked: 'I had 1 ml of filler injected into my lips once four years ago, and now it’s really bothering me.'

Dr. Parsa also highlighted alternative volume correction methods, such as fat grafting. “Fat grafting, when done correctly, is the best filler,” he added. These findings have raised concerns among medical professionals and patients considering aesthetic procedures.

Dr. Parsa’s study underscores the need for a cautious approach to hyaluronic acid fillers, as their hydrophilic properties can lead to excessive tissue accumulation. This calls into question the safety of long-term use of such products, which could have serious consequences for patients. At the same time, the suggestion of alternative correction methods, like fat grafting, may represent an important step toward safer and more effective solutions for individuals seeking to enhance their appearance.
