FT: The European Commission to report on Ukraine's progress towards the EU: should we expect membership recommendations.
On Wednesday, October 30, the European Commission will present a report on the progress of candidate countries for entry into the European Union. However, according to the Financial Times, the document will not contain official recommendations regarding further integration of Ukraine and Moldova.
According to the publication, the report will note the progress of a number of candidate countries. Special attention is paid to Ukraine and Moldova, which have shown the most noticeable results among the “countries most vulnerable to conflicts.”
Regarding Georgia, the European Commission will also refrain from specific recommendations. An official EU representative urged the authorities in Tbilisi to conduct a “fast, transparent, and independent investigation into violations during the elections,” leaving the resolution of the situation to the EU member states.
Recall that on November 8, 2023, the European Commission recommended starting negotiations on Ukraine's and Moldova's accession to the EU. On December 14, the European Council supported this initiative with 26 votes. The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, previously stated the possibility of Ukraine joining the EU in 2030.
On June 25 in Luxembourg, negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU officially began. On August 21, the Verkhovna Rada ratified the Rome Statute, which was one of the conditions of the Association Agreement with the EU.
