Over 3,200 Kyiv Apartment Blocks Lack Heating as 160 Repair Crews Work Around the Clock.
Kyiv Heating Crisis: 160 Repair Teams Mobilized for 3,200 High-Rise Buildings
According to TSN.ua: Ukraine's energy system remains under severe strain following attacks by the Russian Federation. In the capital, Kyiv, more than 3,200 multi-story apartment buildings are without heating, with emergency restoration efforts proceeding 24/7. To address the damage to infrastructure, over 160 repair crews have been deployed.
Widespread Infrastructure Damage
Kyiv has become the focal point of the infrastructure crisis. Nearly 6,000 buildings in total are currently without heating. The crews working on restoration include:
- 35 teams from Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways),
- 20 from the Kyiv region,
- and more than 25 from other regions, including Vinnytsia, Rivne, Volyn, Mykolaiv, Lviv, Odesa, and Zakarpattia.
It was also noted that in Chernihiv, over 400,000 consumers were left without power, though electricity supply has now been restored. In Kyiv, 88,000 households are currently experiencing temporary blackouts. These attacks on civilian energy infrastructure are a recurring tactic in the ongoing war, creating humanitarian challenges, especially during winter.
"The situation in the energy system remains extremely tense."
Oleksiy Kuleba
Oleksiy Kuleba also expressed gratitude to all employees of utility companies, Ukrzaliznytsia, and crews from other communities for their round-the-clock work on restoration.
This situation underscores the severe challenges Ukraine faces regarding energy security during the conflict. Damage to infrastructure from military actions significantly complicates daily life for citizens, as the lack of heat and electricity impacts comfort and safety during the winter period. Restoring services is a priority for the government and utility services, which are pooling efforts from across the country to resolve the problems swiftly.
