Zhytomyr region: rescue on stretchers

In the Zhytomyr region, border guards conducted a rescue operation, during which they saved a man who was trying to cross the border illegally. He was in critical condition, and his friend left him in the forest to freeze.

The rescued man:

“They left me to freeze. Thank you to the border guards for finding me and saving my life.”

The man with severe frostbite was given medical assistance.

Rivne region: tragedy in Ostroh and frostbitten fugitives

In Rivne region, two men from Poltava and Dnipro got lost in the woods during the frost. When border guards found them, the men could no longer walk on their own; they had to be carried out. They were diagnosed with frostbite of the hands and feet.

Unfortunately, one of the men died from the cold.

Anna Makhnо:

“The tragic incident became known due to the severe frosts in Rivne region. In Ostroh, a 47-year-old man froze to death, as reported by the State Emergency Service.”

Rescuers emphasize the importance of warm clothing, hats, and gloves, and also warn against consuming alcohol for warmth.

Roads: dangerous situations and snow traps

The situation on the roads is also worsening. Due to slippery roads, drivers find themselves in difficult circumstances.

  • In Khmelnytskyi region, a tractor driver died after colliding with a stuck truck.

  • In Rivne region, drivers complain about the slippery road, where one of them miraculously survived after an accident.

  • In Zhytomyr region, police assist drivers who have fallen into snow traps.

In Lviv, snowfall has finally stopped, although the city experienced a transport collapse due to road blockages by trucks. Utility services are working around the clock, but ice remains dangerous.

Transcarpathia: medical assistance on horseback

In the Tyachiv district of Transcarpathia, ambulance medics had to use sledges drawn by horses to reach a patient, as cars could not get through the snowdrifts. In mountainous areas, the situation is further complicated by a high avalanche risk.

Weather conditions in the country pose serious challenges for residents of the western regions of Ukraine. Lethal cold and ice threaten lives and complicate the work of rescue services. In a situation where winter shows its harsh side, it is important to adhere to basic safety rules to avoid tragic consequences.
