March 2026 Brings 12.1% Pension Hike for Nearly 3.4 Million Ukrainians with Disabilities.
Disability Demographics in Ukraine
According to TSN.ua: As of March 2026, Ukraine is home to almost 3.4 million people with disabilities. This figure has surged by roughly 700,000—a nearly 26% increase—since 2022. Among this group, 150,000 individuals have disabilities resulting from combat wounds, concussions, and other war-related causes.
Disability Pension Updates
According to official data, 1.5 million people with disabilities currently receive disability pensions. Following an indexation scheduled for March 2026, net pensions for the majority of recipients will rise by 12.1%. Notably, disability pensions will not be indexed in 2025, as they are considered up-to-date at that time.
Pension amounts vary by disability group:
- Group I: 100% of the potential old-age pension.
- Group II: 90%.
- Group III: 50%.
In 2020, the full old-age pension (100%) stood at UAH 2,717. Starting in March 2026, the minimum payout for Group I will be UAH 3,340, while Groups II and III (non-working) will receive UAH 2,825.
Additionally, as of March 2026, over 60,000 individuals with disabilities who are Chernobyl disaster clean-up workers also receive pensions. Military disability pensions for Group I will amount to UAH 23,153 per month from March 2026.
The rising number of people with disabilities in Ukraine underscores the ongoing impact of the war and the urgent need to adapt social programs to support these citizens.
These pension system reforms could significantly affect the well-being of people with disabilities, as well as state social spending. This highlights the critical role of government policy in protecting the rights and fostering the social integration of individuals with disabilities amid current challenges.
