Ukraine Braces for Intensifying Frost as Red-Level Weather Alert Issued.
Deep Freeze Tightens Grip on Ukraine
According to TSN.ua: Meteorologists have declared a red-level danger alert as a severe cold spell descends upon Ukraine. On Saturday, January 31, an anticyclone will push out lingering cyclonic systems, bringing a sharp drop in temperatures that threatens public safety.
Daytime air temperatures are expected to range from -6 to -10 degrees Celsius. The northern and western regions will see the most significant frost, with readings between -7 and -12 degrees. In the Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia regions and Crimea, daytime highs will be milder, from +1 to +5 degrees. In Kyiv, the night will bring temperatures as low as -14 degrees, with a daytime high of -12. The coldest nighttime lows are forecast for the Rivne and Zhytomyr regions, where thermometers will plummet to -16 degrees. The warmest daytime high will be in Crimea, not exceeding +4 degrees.
Safety Recommendations
Forecasters note that by Saturday, frosty conditions will already be established across most of Ukraine.
“The frosts in Ukraine will continue to intensify. The beginning of February will be very cold,” reported Natalia Didenko.Given these forecasts, residents are urged to exercise caution and factor the harsh weather into their plans.
With this severe cold front approaching, Ukrainians should prepare for significant disruptions to daily life. These extreme temperatures pose a serious challenge to:
- energy infrastructure
- transportation networks
- public health
