Druzhba Oil Pipeline: Latest Developments

According to TSN.ua: The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has denied reports about specific dates or organized trips by international experts to the damaged section of the Druzhba oil pipeline. Spokesperson Heorhiy Tykhyi stated there is no confirmed information regarding any concrete visits or schedules, adding:

“I am not aware of any specific agreed dates or trips. I also do not know where this information came from.”

Kyiv remains in regular contact with the European Commission, as well as with Hungary and Slovakia, concerning the pipeline’s condition. The most recent briefing on the matter took place over the past weekend. Additionally, 11 Gulf states have approached Ukraine with requests for support.

International Efforts for Pipeline Recovery

An inspection of the Druzhba pipeline infrastructure had been anticipated ahead of discussions on a €90 billion loan package for Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that

“Ukraine is ready to cooperate with the EU within the framework of technical and financial assistance to restore Druzhba.”
This underscores the critical role of international collaboration in rehabilitating key infrastructure assets.

The state of the Druzhba pipeline is significant not only for Ukraine but also for European nations reliant on its oil supplies. Damage to this route could have major repercussions for regional energy security. Restoring the infrastructure and securing foreign aid reflect Ukraine’s efforts to strengthen its position in the energy market and ensure stable relations with the EU.
