The findings indicate that conditions of microgravity significantly impair the ability of sperm to fertilize an egg.

Under microgravity, sperm lose their capacity to navigate properly, leading to a drop in successful fertilization rates to as low as 30%. The research revealed that sperm efficiency declined sharply within just 4 to 6 hours. This underscores how crucial gravity is for sperm to swim toward an egg, according to Dr. Nicole McPherson.

Extended exposure to microgravity may also delay embryo development, adding further obstacles to the possibility of conception in space. However, there are potential solutions.
