Rat on KLM flight: flight canceled due to rodent over the Atlantic.
Incident on KLM flight due to rat on board
According to ТСН: The KLM airline flight was canceled after a large rat was discovered on board the aircraft. Passengers were left shocked, and the aircraft was forced out of service for sanitation.
The incident occurred during the KLM Airbus A330 flight, which was supposed to transport 250 passengers from Amsterdam to Aruba and then to Bonaire. During the flight over the Atlantic Ocean, a rat was spotted on board the aircraft.
When the plane arrived in Aruba, it was removed from flights, and all subsequent flights were canceled. A video appeared on social media showing the rat running along the ledge inside the plane.
A KLM representative confirmed that the aircraft was taken out of service for thorough cleaning, calling the incident 'very exceptional'. They noted: 'The safety and well-being of our passengers and crew is always our top priority. Therefore, we canceled the flight from Aruba to Bonaire to allow the plane to be thoroughly cleaned before returning to service.'
Passengers were arranged overnight accommodations and offered alternative flights. According to a KLM representative, the pilot had no choice but to complete the route when the rat was spotted over the ocean. Passengers remained calm, and the crew closely monitored the animal, which did not approach the food.
This incident recalls a similar situation last year with Scandinavian Airlines, when a flight also had to be redirected due to a mouse found in a passenger's food during a flight from Oslo to Malaga. At that time, the plane landed in Copenhagen for replacement and safety checks.
One of the KLM passengers, Jarle Borrestad, stated that people did not panic and 'were not stressed at all' about the unusual find. The rat ran out of the box just as a neighbor was opening her food.
The incident caused a two-and-a-half-hour delay due to the fumigation of the aircraft and preparation for replacement. Rodents on board can pose a serious safety threat, as they can chew through important wires. Airlines have appropriate procedures to prevent such cases.
In conclusion, it is worth noting that while such incidents are rare, they always raise concerns among passengers. Airlines continue to improve their safety measures to avoid such situations in the future.
