Two Grain-Laden Civilian Ships Hit in Overnight Strike on Odesa Region; Casualties Reported.
Overnight Attack in Odesa Oblast
According to TSN.ua: Two commercial vessels, flagged to Palau and Barbados, were damaged by hostile drones during a nighttime assault in Ukraine’s Odesa region. The ships were berthed and loaded with grain at the time of the strike. Two people suffered injuries and have since received medical care. Despite the damage, both vessels remain afloat.
Aftermath of the Strike
The attack also caused damage to administrative buildings and sparked a fire on the premises, which emergency crews quickly brought under control. Cleanup operations are still underway at the site.
Oleksiy Kuleba, a local official, stated: 'This is yet another war crime by Russia against global food security!'
The incident follows a massive bombardment of Odesa that took place on March 19.
This event highlights the mounting threats to international trade and food security, as strikes on grain-carrying ships could disrupt global supply chains. It is worth noting that such attacks occur amid ongoing hostilities that have already inflicted severe economic repercussions on Ukraine and nations relying on its agricultural exports.
