In Lviv, the main Christmas tree is being installed: how the candidate tree was chosen.

According to ТСН: The main Christmas tree of Lviv is already on its way to the city, and it will be installed today in the square in front of the Opera House.

According to the Lviv City Council, this year over 15 trees were contenders for the role of the main Christmas tree. The first inquiries from residents regarding candidate trees came in the summer. After that, specialists from the department inspected each tree. They were chosen based on several important criteria: the width of the crown, the evenness of the trunk, luxuriance, and appropriate height.

Inspection locations for potential Christmas trees

Among the locations where the New Year trees were chosen were Yavoriv, Zymna Voda, Zavereshytsia, Mshana, Sokilnyky, Pisky, Horodok, Rudno, Bilohirshcha, and also four trees in Lviv. The city council noted that each tree had its own history and features.

Traditions of decorating the Christmas tree

Traditionally, the city does not spend money on purchasing the Christmas tree — it is donated, and the festive decorations will use last year’s illumination.

The solemn opening of Lviv's main Christmas tree is scheduled for December 5th — the day before St. Nicholas Day.
