Orikhiv Under Siege: Conditions Worsen as Occupiers Intensify Attacks

According to TSN.ua: In the city of Orikhiv, located in the Zaporizhzhia region, the situation is deteriorating rapidly due to relentless explosions and assaults by occupying forces employing drones and aerial bombs. Despite the grave danger, roughly 500 residents have chosen to stay, struggling to survive amid the ongoing war.

Currently, around 500 people still live in Orikhiv. The occupiers are heavily using FPV drones to carry out strikes, while anti-tank mines are being dropped into civilian yards. The front line sits just 10 kilometers away, heightening the risk for locals. The 65th Brigade 'Velykyi Luh' is deployed in the area, but their presence has not halted enemy operations.

The city is facing a severe shortage of essential resources. At present, Orikhiv has no functioning stores or pharmacies, and the last post office has shut down. Residents are left without access to critical services. Compounding the crisis, the State Emergency Service has been absent from the city for over a month.

“The SES hasn’t been in the area for a month now; only the police and local authorities remain.” - Mykola Vinichenko

Facing constant danger, Orikhiv’s inhabitants are desperately seeking ways to survive. Some refuse to abandon their homes, while others are unable to leave due to illness. Local resident Svitlana Viktorivna explains:

“The reasons vary: some say 'I don’t want to leave my home,' others can’t because of illnesses.”

In these dire circumstances, people are trying to support one another, clinging to hope for better days. However, conditions grow more unbearable with each passing day, and it remains uncertain how much longer they can hold on.

The plight of Orikhiv stands as a stark example of the toll the ongoing armed conflict in Ukraine is taking. The lack of vital resources and protection, coupled with the constant threat to life, has placed local residents in an extraordinarily precarious position. These circumstances demand urgent action from both the state and humanitarian organizations to ensure safety and support for those trapped in the conflict zone.
