In Kyiv, a shelf in a store fell on a child: doctors saved the boy after massive blood loss.
According to ТСН: In Kyiv, urgent surgery was conducted on three-year-old Artem, who suffered serious injuries after a shelf fell in a store. The shelf collapsed on the boy, causing significant internal bleeding.
The incident occurred in a shoe store while Artem's parents were paying for their purchase, and he reached for a shelf of goods that suddenly collapsed on him.
“I saw my son fall with the shelf. My husband and I started pulling him out together. I didn't understand where to run and what to do; he started to turn pale before my eyes, and soon there were vomiting masses mixed with blood,” recalls Ms. Oleksandra, the boy's mother.
Upon arrival at the hospital, a CT scan revealed a severe closed abdominal injury: liver damage and significant blood accumulation in the abdominal cavity. The child was operated on 30 minutes after hospitalization.
“In such an injury, decisions must be made in minutes. We saw major vessel damage and significant blood loss. We managed to stop the bleeding and remove the damaged part of the liver through resection so that the preserved part of the organ could function normally,” noted Oleg Hodik, a transplant surgeon at the NSPC 'Okhmatdyt.'
Doctors also reported that due to the significant blood loss, a blood transfusion was performed using a special reinfusion device to return the patient's own erythrocytes. After the successful operation, Artem was under medical supervision for two weeks. Currently, his condition is stable, and he has been discharged home. He will continue medication and undergo regular examinations to monitor the liver recovery process.
It is also worth mentioning that earlier in Lutsk, doctors removed a trichobezoar - a foreign body made of hair, mucus, and food weighing 700 grams - from the stomach of a seven-year-old girl, which filled a third of the organ.
Furthermore, the Polish police have announced a search for a family of Ukrainians consisting of seven people, including five children. They were last seen on December 15 in the town of Wladyslawowo, after which contact with the family was lost.
This tragedy underscores the dangers that can threaten children in ordinary stores. The situation with the missing Ukrainian family in Poland also raises concerns and questions about the safety and well-being of children. It is important for society to pay attention to the issues affecting the lives of the youngest.
